How to create a good MP3 from Lossless audio files

To get create a good MP3 file it’s necessary to have a good source of lossless audio file such FLAC, APE, WV, but also you need to know the process and related tools.

  • The following tutorial is only for Windows users.
  • Linux users actually can use WINE to run Windows programs.
  • For Mac OS X users see this tutorial.

STEPS

  1. Download, install and Setup CUETools (if you don’t know how, please click the following links: Step 1 & Step 2)
  2.

  3. As an example of lossless audio source here we have a single-file FLAC Album image plus Cue-sheet file and
    others.
  4.

  5. Run CUETools, then in Audio Output section tick Lossy and click down-arrow to select MP3. As encoding method hydrogenaud.io recommends use VBR V0 or CBR 320. So first we will use VBR V0 and for this click down-arrow and choose VBR (libmp3lame) and slide the level to V0.
  6.

  7. Now Drag and drop the Cue Sheet file exactly as shown and hit GO.
  8.

  9. Hit Ok in this window.
  10.

  11. Wait until the process ends.
  12.

  13. As you can see it has created a New folder
  14.

  15. Containing the single-file FLAC album image splitted and convert into MP3 VBR V0 tracks.
  16.

  17. Now if you want use CBR 320 as encoding method click down-arrow and choose CBR (libmp3lame) and slide the level to 320 and hit GO.

CONVERT LOSSLESS TRACKS FILES TO MP3 FILES

  • If you already have a FLAC tracks album as shown.

  •

  • And you want convert them to MP3 files, repeat procedures by the same way as shown below.
  •

  • Drag and drop the Cue Sheet file…choose your encoding method (VBR or CBR) and hit GO…. then hit Ok in next window… wait until the process ends… (see pictures)
  • As an optional recommendation, I suggest always keep the original Lossless file as the main backup.
