With its sci-fi theme and spaced-out keyboards, “Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground),” the first single by longtime Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford’s side project, Mike + the Mechanics, hinted at a return to the grainier early days of the prog rock giants.
