“You Belong to the City” is a song written by Glenn Frey and Jack Tempchin, and recorded by Frey during his solo career. It was written specifically for the television show Miami Vice in 1985. The song peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, although it did reach the top of the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart. Indochine is a French pop rock and new wave band formed in Paris in 1981. They became very successful in the Francophonie, Europe and Latin America in the 1980s, with songs like “L’Aventurier” and “Canary Bay”. This one-off collaboration between the Cure’s Robert Smith and Siouxsie & the Banshees’ Steven Severin resulted in an eccentric, and at times incompatible, mix of psychedelic sounds wrapped around alternative ’80s pop. Writers Smith and Severin’s more eccentric tendencies are as likely to evoke pictures of a carnival as a funereal march, but the backbone rests largely on tightly constructed tunes with occasional forays into the experimental. When it was released, Trans was Neil Young’s most baffling album.
