riginally titled Metrobolist, the album’s name was changed at the last minute to The Man Who Sold The World, the original stereo master tapes were in fact labelled Metrobolist, with the title ultimately crossed out. T. Rex – Discography

T. Rex - Discography

The most iconic band of the U.K. glam rock scene of the ’70s, T. Rex were the creation of Marc Bolan, who started out as a cheerfully addled acolyte of psychedelia and folk-rock until he turned to swaggering rock & roll with boogie rhythm and a tricked-up fashion sense. For a couple years, T. Rex were the biggest band in England and a potent cult item in the United States. Continue reading “T. Rex – Discography”

With the 1974 disintegration of the original Alice Cooper group, Alice was free to launch a solo career. He wisely decided to re-enlist the services of Bob Ezrin for his solo debut, Welcome to My Nightmare, which was a concept album tied into the story line of the highly theatrical concert tour he launched soon after the album’s release. It was designed to be a blockbuster and it was. Prior to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John had hits — his second album, Elton John, went Top 10 in the U.S. and U.K., and he had smash singles in “Crocodile Rock” and “Daniel” — but this 1973 album was a statement of purpose spilling over two LPs, which was all the better to showcase every element of John’s spangled personality. Suzi Quatro – The Girl From Detroit City (2014) [4CD Box Set]

Suzi Quatro - The Girl From Detroit City (2014) [4CD Box Set]

Suzi Quatro is a performer as famous for her image as her music; Quatro was rock & roll’s prototypical Bad Girl, the woman in the leather jumpsuit with the enormous bass guitar (well, it looked enormous, given that Quatro is only five feet tall), looking sexy but ferocious as she banged out her glam rock hits in her ’70s glory days. Lou Reed – The Sire Years: Complete Albums Box (2015) [10CD, Box Set]

Lou Reed - The Sire Years: Complete Albums Box (2015) [10CD, Box Set]

From 1972 to 1986, Lou Reed recorded for the RCA and Arista labels, where he made several strong solo albums as well as a few creative missteps, and while he became one of rock’s most respected songwriters, both labels seemed unsure of how to present Reed’s work to the public. T. Rex - Electric Warrior (1971) [2003, Reissue, CD-Layer + Hi-Res SACD Rip]

The album that essentially kick-started the U.K. glam rock craze, Electric Warrior completes T.Rex’s transformation from hippie folk-rockers into flamboyant avatars of trashy rock & roll. There are a few vestiges of those early days remaining in the acoustic-driven ballads, but Electric Warrior spends most of its time in a swinging, hip-shaking groove powered by Marc Bolan’s warm electric guitar. Alice Cooper – Discography (1969 – 2018)

Alice Cooper - Discography (1969 - 2018)

Originally, there was a band called Alice Cooper led by a singer named Vincent Damon Furnier. Under his direction, Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, heavy metal, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood, and huge boa constrictors, all coordinated by the heavily made-up Furnier Continue reading “Alice Cooper – Discography (1969 – 2018)”

Lou Reed – The RCA & Arista Album Collection (2016) [17CD Box Set]

Lou Reed - The RCA & Arista Album Collection (2016) [17CD Box Set]

In 1972, Lou Reed was a minor cult hero to a handful of rock critics and left-of-center music fans who championed his former band, the Velvet Underground, but he was unknown to the mainstream music audience. By 1986, Reed was a rock & roll icon, widely hailed as a master songwriter and one of the founding fathers of punk, glam, noise rock, and any number of other vital rock subgenres; he even scored a few hits along the way. Joan Jett – Discography (1981 – 2013)

Joan Jett - Discography (1981 - 2013)

By playing pure and simple rock & roll without making an explicit issue of her gender, Joan Jett became a figurehead for several generations of female rockers. Jett’s brand of rock & roll is loud and stripped-down, yet with overpowering hooks — a combination of the Stones’ tough, sinewy image and beat, AC/DC chords, and glam rock hooks.
