This latest compilation of Jim’s music is both interesting and valid in that it combines songs that appeared on his three hit albums with earlier compositions that were works in progress of a singer/songwriter finding his voice and an artist searching for directon.
Songs like “Mississippi Lady”, “Stone Walls” and “Country Girl” cast Jim as the observer/storyteller in a country music setting. “King’s Song” and “Which Way Are You Going” are based on 60’s social protest. “Hey Tomorrow” is a transitional piece that shows the beginning of the vulnerability that became the hallmark of his now classic songs.
The inclusion of this early work with some much loved album cuts make this compilation both enjoyable and educational.
