The Grateful Dead are proud to re-release their third studio album. The album features both of its official mixes, the 1969 original mix, and the 1971 remix on disc 1, which was overseen by Phil Lesh and Jerry Garcia. The original 1969 mix had been lost for decades before turning up in the early 2000s, and we’re thrilled to include it here on CD for the first time, along with its more well-known 1971 remix. The differences in the mixes at times are subtle and nuanced, and at others are glaring and dramatic, and it’s incredibly fun to contrast and compare. Live In Los Angeles was a covermount CD for The Mail On Sunday newspaper in Britain and Ireland, on 17th January 2010. It had been recorded during Paul’s unannounced performance at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles on 27th June 2007: a free show, inside the mammoth Hollywood record store. Antidote is a completely forward-thinking album, yet its roots date to the 1960s, near the beginning of his career when he played in the bands of Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo. Like so many Willie Nelson albums of the 2010s, Ride Me Back Home bears a title that appears to be a vague nod to Nelson’s mortality. Unlike, say, God’s Problem Child or Last Man Standing, the cloud doesn’t appear to hang so heavy on Ride Me Back Home, but maybe that’s because the album is amiably unkempt in a way its immediate predecessors were not.
