Doris Day – Complete Recordings With Les Brown (2001)

Doris Day - Complete Recordings With Les Brown (2001)

Reissuing the identical material compiled elsewhere several times (most notably on Columbia’s The Complete Doris Day With Les Brown), Jazz Factory won’t win any points for originality, but the material itself is golden. Day’s recordings with Les Brown blazed at such a high candle power that even an energetic combo like the Andrews Sisters could hardly compare (no less with their three voices to her one). B.B.King - Ladies & Gentlemen... Mr. B.B.King (2012) [10CD Box Set]

Universal’s 2012 box set Ladies & Gentlemen…Mr. B.B. King is hardly the first B.B. There has always been more to the Johnny Winter story than meets the eye, and if stepping into the role of a whirlwind albino electric blues guitar player from Texas with a brilliant slide style was the very role he was born to fill, he took a while to get there. For starters, he was born in Mississippi, which might explain something, and then grew up in Texas, where he played clarinet before switching over to guitar at the age of 11. In 1957, Frank Sinatra recorded a song of the same name for the album Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely (not related to Orbison’s recording).
