At the time, they seemed like one of many heavy post-grunge guitar outfits — especially to the disinterested observers who tend to name genres and classify bands. Carlos Santana was originally in his own wing of the Latin Rock Hall of Fame, neither playing Afro-Cuban with rock guitar, as did Malo, nor flavoring mainstream rock with percussion, as did Chicago. His first record, as with the best fusion, created something a little different than just a mixture Continue reading “Santana – Santana (1969) [1994, Mastersound Remaster, 24-Karat Gold Disc]”

The 66 of the title refers not to the hallowed pop year of 1966 — a time that saw the release of Revolver, Aftermath, Face to Face, and A Quick One, among other classics — but the age Paul Weller will be shortly after the release of his 17th solo album.
