Initially, the Animals’ Retrospective looks like just another greatest-hits compilation recycling the same old tracks already easily available elsewhere. Yawn! Yet, on closer inspection, there’s a big difference with this particular set. These 22 tracks are taken from the ABKCO masters and utilize Direct Stream Digital (DSD), containing both CD and Super Audio CD layers. Doors super fan Nettie Pena recorded her favorite band during their stint as the house band at the L.A. nightclub London Fog, capturing seven songs from a performance held sometime in May 1966. Black Rose: A Rock Legend would prove to be Thin Lizzy’s last true classic album (and last produced by Tony Visconti). Guitarist Brian Robertson was replaced by Gary Moore prior to the album’s recording. Moore had already been a member of the band in the early ’70s and served as a tour fill-in for Robertson in 1977, and he fits in perfectly with Lizzy’s heavy, dual-guitar attack. The Who’s 1982 tour, which was all in North America apart from two warm-up dates at the Birmingham NEC in England, was their last to feature Kenney Jones on drums and they wouldn’t tour again until 1989. The tour promoted the recent ‘It’s Hard’ album, which had been released in June 1982, and the set list included a number of tracks from that album, some of which the band would only play live on this tour. This concert film features the show from the second of their two nights at New York’s Shea Stadium and was filmed on October 13th 1982. Although a couple of tracks have appeared on compilations, this is the first official release of the full show and features restored footage and newly mixed sound. Live In Los Angeles was a covermount CD for The Mail On Sunday newspaper in Britain and Ireland, on 17th January 2010. It had been recorded during Paul’s unannounced performance at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles on 27th June 2007: a free show, inside the mammoth Hollywood record store. In the audience, small children and grandparents rubbed elbows with the likes of Ringo Starr and Woody Harrelson. Largely recorded in California during 1976, it was produced by the band with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut and was released on 4 February 1977 by Warner Bros. Records. The record reached the top of both the United States Billboard chart and the United Kingdom Albums Chart.
