Although they began as a progressive art-rock band, Chicago’s Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late ’70s and early ’80s due to a fondness for bombastic rockers and soaring power ballads. Known for penning classic rock staples like “Lady,” “Renegade,” “Foolish Young Man,” and “Come Sail Away,” the band has issued 17 studio albums, including the triple-platinum-selling Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, and Paradise Theater. Recorded at Paragon Recording Studios in Chicago, it was released on July 7, 1977 and sold over three million copies in the US (Triple Platinum). Some estimates have the album at over 5 million copies sold. Styx kept themselves busy in the 21st century, launching a tour like clockwork every year, but they abandoned recording new material after 2003’s Cyclorama.
