Danger Money is the second and final studio album by the progressive rock supergroup U.K., featuring John Wetton , Eddie Jobson and Terry Bozzio. It was released by E.G. Records / Polydor in March 1979. Early versions of “The Only Thing She Needs”, “Caesar’s Palace Blues” and “Carrying No Cross” (which had the opening chords to “Danger Money” in its intro) had been performed on tour throughout 1978 by the band’s original line-up with Bill Bruford and Allan Holdsworth. “Rendezvous 6:02” and “Nothing to Lose” were both edited for single release. Culled from several shows taking place in the Pacific Northwest on summer tours of 1973 and 1974, Believe It if You Need It zeroes in on the Grateful Dead in a particularly playful and comfortable phase, with the Deadhead-populated region and the Dead’s first taste of financial success giving their playing in this time a more carefree fluidity. Grand Funk Railroad’s 1969 debut is a wildly uneven affair. Although the exuberant energy and power-trio theatrics that would fuel their 1970s hits are in place, the group’s songwriting and arranging abilities are very much in their infancy. The biggest problems in terms of songwriting are the often-amateurish lyrics: “Anybody’s Answer” is a sincere but muddled attempt at a message song that expends a lot of energy without ever focusing on a particular target and “Heartbreaker” is a love lament that is content to trot out a series of well-worn heartbreak clichés.
