Although it would have been interesting to hear Nat King Cole play some piano and perhaps accompany a vocal by George Shearing instead of exclusively the other way around, this session was a big success. Cole is in prime form on such tunes as “September Song,” “Pick Yourself Up,” and “Serenata.” Shearing’s accompaniment is tasteful and lightly swinging, and the string arrangements help to accentuate the romantic moods. Thankful could be subtitled the finest hour for Natalie Cole and the songwriting/production duo of Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yancy. The album flows from track to track. A Place in the Sun is the third album by the California soft rock group Pablo Cruise. The album marked an entrance into the mainstream for the band, and the first single from the album, “Whatcha Gonna Do?” reached number 6 on the Pop Singles charts. The title track, “A Place in the Sun” was the second and less successful single on the album, reaching number 42, but remains the favorite among many fans of the band today.[3] The track “Raging Fire” was released as the B-side of “I Go to Rio” in 1978. This was the group’s last album with original bassist Bud Cockrell, who left the band after its release. Mobile Fidelity reissued two of the Jam’s best albums, All Mod Cons and Sound Affects, on one gold CD. Although these are two classic records, only hardcore Jam fans will need to acquire this disc, since it carries such a high retail price. Granted, Mobile Fidelity’s remastering is very good, but the remastering on the box set Direction Reaction Creation matches it, and that five-disc set is available for roughly twice the price of this single disc.
