Two years in the making, Santana IV marks the reunion of nearly all members of the 1971-1972 band, arguably its greatest lineup. Carlos Santana, conguero Michael Carabello, organist/lead vocalist Gregg Rolie, drummer Michael Shrieve, and guitarist Neal Schon cut the landmark Santana III in 1971. Illuminations is a 1974 collaboration between Alice Coltrane and Carlos Santana. Jazz musicians Jules Broussard, Jack DeJohnette and Dave Holland also contributed to the record, on saxophone, flute, drums and bass. Alice Coltrane delivers some harp glissando, while the string orchestra adds a serene mood to the music. Limited Japanese-only triple SACD Hybrid disc in paper sleeve including seven bonus tracks. The unreleased tracks, which had been sealed for 44 years, included in this set, and are finally listed in the original order. These seven are: “Japan,” “Bamble,” “Ummu Uum,” “Sacred Light,” “The Creator Has A Master,” “Saver,” and “Conga Solo” (about 35 minutes total). One of the rock masterpieces from Santana, Lotus, becomes a Japan exclusive SACD hybrid multi-channel edition (4ch mix). It uses two-layered SACD with DSD 11.2MHz mastering. Santana - Discography (1969-2014)

Santana is the primary exponent of Latin-tinged rock, particularly due to their combination of Latin percussion (congas, timbales, etc.) with bandleader Carlos Santana’s distinctive, high-pitched lead guitar playing. The group was the last major act to emerge from the psychedelic San Francisco music scene of the 1960s and enjoyed massive success at the end of the decade and into the early ’70s. The musical direction then changed to a more contemplative and jazzy style as the band’s early personnel gradually departed, leaving the name in the hands of Carlos Santana, who guided the group to consistent commercial success over the next quarter-century.
