For 40 years Allan Taylor, born in Brighton in 1945, has been considered as the consummate performer, a writer of literary gracefulness whose troubadour chronicles encapsulate the realism of otherwise unsung heroes, otherwise uncharted lives. On previous albums Allan Taylor sang songs about the road, about all the different countries and all the hotel rooms… “All Is One” goes deeper – into time and ultimately to the recognition that All Is One. The album’s 12 tracks are a quite delightful mix, with one song especially outstanding in its beauty: ‘Made in the Shade’, devoted to Sara K. ‘s fellow artist and kindred spirit Chris Jones who died in 2005. This album is surely one of her very best, maybe THE best. It is certainly no less than sensational. Like good wine, this one has it all, that inner glow, that shining light that is the true sign of real art. Guitars, exotic instruments including the harp form an ideal backdrop for the singer Sara K. sounding articulate to the highest degree, her performance mature, completely lacking any harshness whatsoever. More and more music lovers are discovering the unique sound of a vinyl record. Stockfisch thought about whether it is possible just to make the sound creation factors of a vinyl record audible. A pressed record however, has many artifacts arising from the vinyl pressing i.e. distortion, rumble, groove noise, vertical and lateral aberrations, clicks, etc. And other artifacts that are detrimental to a good sound. Stockfisch calls their new production method “DMM-CD”. Continue reading “Various Artists – The Stockfisch DMM-CD/SACD Vol.1 (2013) [Hi-Res SACD Rip]”

Gram Parsons fondness for drugs and high living are said to have been catching up with him while he was recording Grievous Angel, and sadly he wouldn’t live long enough to see it reach record stores, dying from a drug overdose in the fall of 1973. This album is a less ambitious and unified set than his solo debut, but that’s to say that G.P. was a great album while Grievous Angel was instead a very, very good one. Given Gram Parsons’ habit of taking control of the bands he played with (and his disinclination towards staying with them for very long), it was inevitable that he would eventually strike out on his own, and his first solo album, 1973’s G.P., is probably the best realized expression of his musical personality. Another of Chet Atkins’ attempts to break into the jazz world during his Columbia period, this recording veers well across the line into new age wallowing of the most innocuous kind. At this point in time, when a record opened with soothing ocean waves, followed by a gentle wash of synths, you could pretty much expect the new age to be lapping at your feet throughout Continue reading “Chet Atkins – Sails (1987) [2015, Reissue, Hi-Res SACD Rip]”
