Although they began as a progressive art-rock band, Chicago’s Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late ’70s and early ’80s due to a fondness for bombastic rockers and soaring power ballads. Known for penning classic rock staples like “Lady,” “Renegade,” “Foolish Young Man,” and “Come Sail Away,” the band has issued 17 studio albums, including the triple-platinum-selling Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, and Paradise Theater. Danger Money is the second and final studio album by the progressive rock supergroup U.K., featuring John Wetton , Eddie Jobson and Terry Bozzio. It was released by E.G. Records / Polydor in March 1979. Early versions of “The Only Thing She Needs”, “Caesar’s Palace Blues” and “Carrying No Cross” (which had the opening chords to “Danger Money” in its intro) had been performed on tour throughout 1978 by the band’s original line-up with Bill Bruford and Allan Holdsworth. “Rendezvous 6:02” and “Nothing to Lose” were both edited for single release. Whether it’s the last hour you were allowed to play outside as a child before you had to go home, a reference to the fight against time in regard to the climate crisis or the last minutes of a person’s life – “An Hour Before It’s Dark” certainly doesn’t lack interpretations. Be it “Seasons End” on the 1989 album of the same name or the much discussed track “Gaza” on the 2012 album “Sounds That Can’t Be Made” – Marillion have never minced their words and don’t do so on this album either. Coming from the NW Switzerland on the language border between the Alemanics and the Romands, this unusual quartet of musicians has a strange line-up. Hauser is one of the better percussionists (still playing but in jazz bands nowadays), and bassist Cerletti (the only non-Alemanic in the band) is certainly excellent plays also acoustic guitar. The other two, Fri and Grieder, share the wind instruments with the vocals. That’s it! No KB and almost no el. guitars, at least on the first two albums.
