American singer/songwriter Tori Amos (born Myra Ellen Amos) was one of several female artists who combined the stark, lyrical attack of ’90s alternative rock with a distinctly ’70s musical approach, creating music that fell between the orchestrated meditations of Kate Bush and the stripped-down poetics of Joni Mitchell. In addition, she revived the singer/songwriter traditions of the ’70s while reestablishing the piano as a rock & roll instrument. With her 1992 album, Little Earthquakes, Amos built a dedicated following that expanded with her second album, Under the Pink, before giving way to a decades-spanning legacy. Following the highly successful releases of the Steven Wilson’s remixes of The Power And The Glory and Octopus, Steven has now remixed a specially curated selection of songs and compositions from the band’s first three albums (Giant, Acquiring the Taste, Three Friends) presented in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo. Only a few songs from each of the band’s first three albums are known to exist as multi-tracks, with the rest presumably lost, and it is these nine tracks – plus the previously unreleased pre-debut song ‘Freedom’s Child’ – that have been remixed by Steven Wilson for this very special release. Woman. Each album has been remastered in multichannel for hybrid SACD by Doug Sax and The Doors’ original engineer Bruce Botnick. The surround sound originates from 96K, 24-bit files that were mixed and mastered from the original one-inch, eight track, 15-ips analog master tapes by Bruce Botnick for Elektra’s 2006 DVD Audio release entitled Perception.
