For the most part, 1979’s Eve is somewhat overlooked as being one of the Alan Parsons Project’s finest work, when in fact it involves some of this group’s most intricate songs. The album’s concept deals with the female’s overpowering effect on man. Each song touches on her ability to dissect the male ego, especially through sexual means, originating with Eve’s tempting Adam in the beginning of time. Not only does this idea gain strength as the album progresses, but a musical battle of the sexes begins to arise through each song. The gorgeous “You Won’t Be There” spotlights man’s insecurity. No matter, because the music here is assured and contemporary with just enough of the past showing through to catch one’s eye. Jakob Dylan has been polishing his compositional chops and it really shows on such cuts as “Invisible City,” the hit “6th Avenue Heartache” and especially “One Headlight.” A fine effort indeed. The Grateful Dead are proud to re-release their third studio album. The album features both of its official mixes, the 1969 original mix, and the 1971 remix on disc 1, which was overseen by Phil Lesh and Jerry Garcia. The original 1969 mix had been lost for decades before turning up in the early 2000s, and we’re thrilled to include it here on CD for the first time, along with its more well-known 1971 remix. The differences in the mixes at times are subtle and nuanced, and at others are glaring and dramatic, and it’s incredibly fun to contrast and compare. The Scottish hard rock quartet Nazareth had a handful of hard rock hits in the late ’70s, including the proto-power ballad “Love Hurts.” Formed in 1968, the band featured vocalist Dan McCafferty, guitarist Manny Charlton, bassist Pete Agnew, and drummer Darrell Sweet. The band had relocated to London by 1970, and they released their self-titled debut album in 1971. Both Nazareth and 1972’s Exercises received favorable attention by British hard rockers, but it was 1973’s Razamanaz that moved them into the U.K. Top Ten (both “Broken Down Angel” and “Bad Bad Boy” were hit singles).
